Gemma Rodrigues

Rodrigues is Curator of African Arts at the Fowler Museum at UCLA. She has curated exhibitions exploring topics as diverse as contemporary conceptual photography, twentieth-century textile arts, and pre-colonial arts of divination. She is a co-editor of the journal African Arts and is completing her doctoral dissertation at Harvard University. From 1997 to 2000, Rodrigues lectured in art history at the Harare Polytechnic in Zimbabwe. In 1998, she co-founded an artists’ trust that continues to foster the visual arts in southern Africa. She has received support from the Mellon Foundation, Harvard’s Center for the Humanities, and the Getty Research Institute.
