We are happy to announce that M-ITI won the ERA Chairs pilot call launched in December 2012 with the project LEAPFROG HCI-DI.
The LEAPFROG HCI-DI project, focusing on the areas of human-computer interaction (HCI) and Innovation by Design (ID) incorporates the group of the first projects selected, having received a grant of 2.35 million euros for a period of four years.
LEAPFROG HCI-DI-project proposes to maximize the potential of teams, promoting the creation of a critical mass of researchers with interdisciplinary experience in HCI, and improve the innovation potential of the Madeira-ITI and its impact at regional, national and European level, through the investment in innovation by Design. Through this approach it will be possible to demonstrate the impact of open innovation and crowdsourcing, extend the capabilities of creative research, and contribute to the positioning of the Madeira-ITI international level.
The purpose of this European Commission initiative is to help close the research and innovation divide in Europe and widen participation in the European Research Area. The ERA Chairs programme will support universities and other eligible organisations in achieving the level of research excellence required to be competitive at international level on a sustainable basis. The indicative budget for this pilot call was €12,000,000 and a maximum of one ERA Chair per country could be selected for the pilot call.
