The Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program supports a Visiting Faculty and Researchers Program, in which individuals holding a doctoral degree and affiliated with Portuguese Higher Education Institutions or Research Labs, can spend one term working in research, education and innovation at Carnegie Mellon University to experience its culture and best practices. Applications are open from February 4 to March 3.
The Visiting Faculty and Researchers Program builds up on the success of the Faculty Exchange Program initiated in 2014 that counted with the participation of 68 faculty members.
During their stay at CMU, visitors are exposed to the same environment and working conditions as a colleague at Carnegie Mellon University. The visiting faculty will:
Receive a formal appointment as a visiting faculty member;
Be hosted by a research group;
Join a teaching team of a course (undergraduate or graduate level) in a specific area of interest, and
Be invited to participate in various activities.
The same applies to faculty members of Carnegie Mellon, who join a Portuguese university for a given period of time.
Financial support and activities report
The candidates admitted to the Visiting Faculty and Researchers Program will receive an FCT Mobility Scholarship to cover living expenses during their stay. Health insurance expenses up to a reasonable amount will be reimbursed. Any other expenses will not be supported by the CMU Portugal program.The financial support will be available for up to a one-term stay (4 months).
A contract will have to be signed with the visiting faculty. At the end of the Program, the visitor will be required to submit a one-page report describing the activity developed during that period.
Identification of the CMU faculty host
It is mandatory for the candidate to have identified a CMU faculty host that will be the faculty member responsible for the visit and for the work developed by the visiting faculty. In specific cases where candidates don´t have a clearly defined CMU faculty host, the CMU Portugal Program coordination office is available to help in the identification of that host. Please contact the CMU Portugal Program coordination office in Portugal for more information.
