From 2006-2011, Jos van Leeuwen was Associate Professor in Computational Design at the University of Madeira, Portugal, where he taught subjects in the areas of computational design, interaction design, collaborative design, hypermedia design, and computer-aided design, in several undergraduate and graduate engineering programs. He is author and was director of the undergraduate program on Interactive Media Design. Teaching in the Master of Human-Computer Interaction, he was also adjunct faculty of the HCI institute at Carnegie Mellon University. For some years, he was assistant director of the Laboratory for Usage-Centered Software Engineering and founding board-member of M-ITI. His general research interest is in using design to enhance communication and vice versa. In particular, his interest is in social networking, location-awareness, and design methods. He holds an MSc and PhD from Eindhoven University of Technology. Before joining the University of Madeira in 2006 he worked 14 years at Eindhoven University of Technology, a few years in software industry, and a post-doctoral/sabbatical year at the Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon.

Jos is now back in The Netherlands, leading a Communication and Multimedia Design program at The Hague University of Applied Sciences.
