The Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute (M-ITI) of the University of Madeira invites applications for the position of tenure track research faculty in design research, to begin in the fall term of 2017 in the scope of Regional Project M1420-01-0145-FEDER-000002/ RH016, co-financed by “Madeira 14-20”. The candidate should be dedicated design researcher, prepared to contribute to multidisciplinary projects focused on investigating and deploying new humanist technologies that promote interaction between technology and the arts and humanities.
How can computers help us to analyze, create, and interact with culture? And how can design research and humanistic approaches help us to improve our understanding of digital media? In the past two decades research in the design research has expanded rapidly. We are looking for an exceptional researcher who are eager to: embrace rather than dissimulate the possibilities of new electronic forms of design and culture; draw from the arts and humanities as much as computer science for inspiration; and directly contribute to our primary research outputs: new interactions between technology, design and the humanities deployed and tested in the field. Research at M-ITI in this field will be multidisciplinary and we are open to candidates from a range of complementary disciplines in the humanities, with demonstrated research interests in areas including:
-->Artistic and humanistic approaches to technology
Researcher will be expected to maintain a critical technical practice; be comfortable with a prototype-oriented research method; maintain a strong presence in their field while remaining open to cross-disciplinary research; and mentor MS and PhD students toward innovative and recognized research outcomes.
M-ITI is an emerging, internationally recognized center for research and education in HCI, located on the beautiful island of Madeira, 90 minutes from mainland Europe. M-ITI serves as an “innovation engine” for leading-edge research and advancing the strategic development of the University and the region of Madeira.
Applicants for faculty positions must have: a PhD in an appropriate discipline; a strong demonstrated record of accomplishment in design research; teaching experience; and a portfolio of prior work.
As a new faculty member you will be expected to continue our tradition of interdisciplinary HCI research; collaborate in the dual-degree Master in HCI with the prestigious HCI Institute at Carnegie Mellon University; help to develop and expand the current PhD programs; manage relations with a strong alumni base; and recruit new students who will enrich our community.
