Systems & Laboratory Administrator

Job Purpose: 

One full time vacancy is currently open for a Systems & Laboratory Administrator in a research and development project in the scope of Regional Project M1420-99-9999-FEDER-000035/ RH003, co-financed by Madeira 14-20 programme. 

NOTE: While university education in Computer Science (or equivalent) is recommended, all candidates with proven professional experience in the field will be considered for the position.

The person shall be responsible for the management of the whole IT infrastructure of M-ITI, including laboratories, staff offices, classrooms, and open space.

The Systems-Labs Administrator shall be the Helpdesk contact point of all service requests from staff, students, teachers and researchers.

The person will be responsible for all aspects:

  • user management,
  • configuration,
  • physical installations,
  • repairs,
  • printers,
  • consumables substitutions.

He/she will support the laboratories electrical equipment setup and troubleshooting.

He/she will support research projects in IT related aspects when applicable.


The mandatory skills are

  • Proven Professional experience in installation and management of networks (2-4 years)
  • Proven Professional Experience installing and configuring servers, firewalls, and security policies, VPN
  • Proven Professional Experience with Linux and Microsoft server platforms
  • Configuration of Apache, MySQl, and installation of websites (Wordpress, Joomla, e.g.)
  • Experience in Virtualization (VMs) and Cloud platforms
  • Experience Windows and Mac PC configuration and troubleshooting
  • Experience setting and operating Audiovisual equipment
